T. Cottage
Current stage: Site construction starts autumn 2022
This garden was specifically designed to obscure the boundary which leads to the wider moorland landscape and frame the epic view towards Ingleborough. We used planting and topography to achieve this by framing the views with multi stem trees and creating mounts to create the illusion of a floating view.
The client wanted a scheme that nestled organically among the surrounding landscape while having a contemporary cottage garden aesthetic. We responded with a planting scheme that incorporates wild meadows, hedgerows and bulb planting to highlight existing features such as the oak. An example is the bulb planting beneath the oak, where the curved design makes the site appear extended.
Our proposed materials and structural elements also echo the vernacular style of the area and surrounding landscape, with reclaimed sandstone paving and stone boulders. These elements, surrounded by perennials, meadow planting and strategic planting around trees, create a sense of wilderness in the garden – blurring sensitively with the neighbouring countryside.
